Concept models are produced to create a physical depiction of objects before they are manufactured. They help others to visualise and understand the object they represent and so have a number of uses in the design and sales process. Some are even made to work like the finished product will.
What makes concept models useful?
They provide invaluable assistance in communicating design information and allow you to discuss the product in detail with those who are less technical. They are an ideal tool to initially evaluate your design and can be useful in the following ways:
- They are produced quickly and cost effectively so you can show an early physical representation without having to wait for a product to be at the manufacturing stage first.
- They enable development teams to begin analysis and adaptation of the design from the very beginning.
- They can raise the level of your initial design evaluation meetings.
- Concept models make useful planning and sales tools.
- They can be used to prove design and tooling for engineering and products.
- Used at the beginning of the design process, concept models will considerably reduce products times and long term costs.
What can be represented in a concept model?
Almost any product can be represented. Concept models can be made of car and aeroplane designs, artistic sculptures, engineering works, exhibition and museum models and so much more.
Both large and small scale models can be produced with as much (or as little) detail as you require.
What is the process involved?
They can be created using a number of different technologies and techniques. Basic models can be made very quickly and cost effectively using rapid prototyping techniques or 3D CNC machining from foam to demonstrate fit, function and form. These can then be further made use of to create exceptionally high quality concept models which can be chromed, finish painted or vacuum metalised to the highest level.
It is also possible to have working models made that are capable of demonstrating fully functional and automated features, which are particularly useful for exhibition model or museum model purposes.
Multiple copies can be made as well, using silicone moulding and vacuum casting.
JH May concept models
We have many years of experience of creating high quality concept and display models at the highest level, with clients that include some of the most globally prestigious companies. They trust us to provide a service that is reliable and efficient and so return to us again and again. We also make an effort to work with project managers to make their lives easier by helping them reach their goals and addressing their concerns.
JH May has extensive 3D model design, mechanical and electronic engineering capabilities which allow us to offer the full range of concept model services, from basic representations to fully functional working models.
Your model can be CNC machined straight from 3D model files or we can create them traditionally using 2D drawings and sketches and we can also employ rapid prototyping as part of the process. Our CAD technicians can also create the necessary files to make use of the latest 3D CNC machining and rapid prototyping techniques if you don’t already have them available.
Call us today if you would like us to create concept models for you that both suit your budget and meet your high expectations of quality and service, or find out more here.
