Back to the Future

using prototype example

Over the years there have been many new inventions, prototypes and concepts for the futuristic, unusual and seemingly impossible ideas! Yet, every day we are amazed at the speed of technology and how those ideas that might have seemed outrageous to some are now part of our everyday lives.

Many of these ideas became prototypes that were taken from company to company to pitch with, or used internally to perfect and then build the products that we see today. No drawing or video can really show these ideas off as well as a prototype can, you see, no matter how used to the digital world we are there really is no substitute for seeing, feeling and moving a prototype to get a real understanding of what it could actually become once in production.

Pretty much every large company uses prototypes on a fairly regular basis, you will no doubt be familiar with seeing images of prototype cars for example. But everything from tools and equipment, to mobile phones and remote controls often start their journey into becoming real with the aid of prototypes.

A prototype can be as simple or as complex as required. You many need a fully functioning model or simply a design concept to showcase your ideas. Size can be to scale if required but if you are looking for a prototype for an exhibition you might want a larger version produced to stand out from the crowd.

The skills required to produce a range of different types of prototype are very niche and so that’s why at JH May we are continually educating ourselves and our team on modern techniques alongside the more traditional skills required.
