Architectural Models – 3D CAD Models from 2D drawings

architectural model of town

We are often requested to produce architectural models. The detail required is dependent on the use of the model, if it is for a council to perceive the effect of a new building on its surroundings then small details would be not necessary, but for an architect to define the design of a new structure then finer detail may be required.

These models can prove invaluable when councils are in the process of designing new centres, such as the architectural model we produced to display a new development in Hatfield Town Centre.

This can aid existing business owners and residents to comprehend how the new development will effect them and the area surrounding them. We manufactured a large-scale model using 2D data supplied by our customer, and our design team was required to supply a 3D CAD model of one intricate building.

Some buildings were then CNC machined, but a majority of the buildings were produced by hand using our model makers highly skilled techniques.

Using model board, features including windows and doors are added to individual parts by hand as this highlights the craftsmanship involved in manufacturing these models.

To complete the overall model, each building and feature was painted to the customer’s requirements and a custom made acrylic cover was produced for protection.
