Our specialist model making skills are often called upon to produce exhibition models to be used at shows and events around the world. The most recent we have completed were three exhibition models of mobile phones and holders for a well known international telecoms company.
A key requirement that the client had was to ensure that each unit was completely different and needed to be made up of 12 separate parts to enable easy transportation around different events and exhibitions. The bases of the models were a charger unit, pager unit and answering machine unit. Our customer supplied us with fully surfaced CAD files, from which we could directly machine the pieces.
For this project, we also used high resolution SLA models. This is a finer build which results in a much neater finish, and then created the mobile phone screens by CNC machining and hand polishing clear Perspex. The client needed the models to look as realistic as possible, so in order to achieve a high standard appearance, each piece was hand finished in order to remove every single one of the build lines, then we bead blasted the products to prepare the surfaces for painting by our model makers.
Once the surfaces are thoroughly checked to ensure they are uniform, they are then ready to be primed and painted in our customers specific colours, this preparation ensures an all over even finish after painting.
The mobile phone models also needed to have realistic plastic key mats moulded and painted in the required corporate colours, with letter graphics and a “soft-feel” lacquer applied. We always look to carry out finishing touches such so that we guarantee the high standard required for models used in exhibitions and displays.
Each exhibition model was then assembled by hand, ready for next day delivery to the exhibition in Europe
