Product Development Support

From soft concept to sure reality, JH May provides the convenience of being equipped for every stage of product development.  The process begins with your ideas, specifications, and if available, your designs.  Scale modeling or 3D computer modeling will further refine your product.  Your prototype will be prepared.  And finally, your dream will be reality, whether you need individual components or a full-scale product development.

How JH May helps with Product Development

  • The mission of JH May is to stand apart from the average industrial developer by working with youin your product development stage to overcome issues and create effective and profitable solutions for every challenge within your project.
  • Established in 1919, the Essex, UK-based company is well-prepared for whatever project you bring to the table.  Single components and large projects are all a part of the job done every day by the designers, engineers and workers that make JH May and of course the development of your product such a success.
  • There are two parallel and interdependent paths that bring product development from idea to fruition.
  • The first path is industrial, the second marketing.
  • Industrial development involves the formation of the idea, the product design, and the engineering of the design.
  • Marketing development involves market research and marketing analysis.
  • These two parallel paths are a picture of the road that a successful firm must follow to reach the destination as a success.

Marketing in the Product Development Process

Marketing involves discovering what would be both useful and acceptable to the desired customer, then showing the customer how your product meets that need.  Market research must be done prior to and during development so that the finished product will meet anticipated needs.  The analysis in the final stages of product development helps a firm to sell the product they have now developed.  The successful firm will be able to confidently and consistently anticipate needs to be first and best in industry at meeting those needs.

Bringing the actual finished product to the market involves the above-mentioned steps; idea, design, engineering.  The initial idea, combined with market data, will help to narrow down the goal of the single component or project at hand.  When your concept has been tweaked by the data available and your specifications have been well-defined, the product design will ensue.  Whether through scale modeling, or more likely, through computer-aided design or manufacturing, the model for your finished product can be tested for projected success.  JH May's Solidworks 3D design package, highly experienced design experts cater to all aspects of design and meet every requirements accurately and precisely.

What happens in the next stage of Product Development

The 3D data obtained will drive the tooling designs and prompt the most effective programming for the computer "controller" that will fabricate your components with precision.  At this point, a concept component or design will be fabricated by rapid prototyping in a fully-functional product for real-life testing.  When prototypes have been proven, and the initiative to proceed with the project is given, the product will begin its initial full-scale engineering for commercial use.  CNC machining will allow for fast and effective manufacture of your entire project. This really is the final stage in the product development cycle.

JH May has the experience, expertise, and equipment to bring your industrial projects to life, from the drawing board to the sales floor.  This is product development at its best, where the development of idea, design process, and finished product are all completed by one  manufacturer, JH May.  Find out more about how we can support you through every stage of product development.
