Several models we have been asked to produce have been shown in television adverts. This inevitably means there is a deadline for the model to be completed by for filming.
We had a 3-week time limit to manufacture three scale models of different Hyundai cars. Hyundai supplied us with 3D CAD files of the Getz, Santa Fe and the Coupe, from which we could CNC machine the models.

Each model car was approximately half a metre long, and was machined from solid blocks of high density modelboard, Ureol. To achieve the detail of the wheels these were machined separately, and connected to the body of the cars on completion.
Supplying solid models enabled the cars to be strong enough to withstand the actions used on the film set in order to achieve the final effect for the advert.
Another model car used in an advert was the new Ford Ka. This model was a lot smaller than the Hyundai cars, measuring at roughly an inch and a half in length. The detail on this car was very intricate, and was CNC machined using our customers 3D data after we had scaled down the information.

Manufactured in aluminium, the model took one week to complete due to the size of the tooling required, the smallest being .3mm, as they were so small the work had to be carried out gradually or they were prone to breaking.
There was a large amount of detail on this model, with the underside showing the exhaust pipe, axles and Ford logo, and even the windows and wing mirrors were CNC machined.
