In addition to our modelmaking and prototyping workshop, the precision engineering half of the factory on our premises is also used in the production of certain projects. CNC machining can achieve some design features requested by our customers, for example we were asked to manufacture several differently designed aluminium parts to be used as a feature on a major office building in London.

The architect supplied us with 3D model data, this was used to CNC machine wooden patterns for us to sand cast.
The sand casting process of pouring molten metal into a cavity in tightly packed sand is ideal for work such as this, where the part is relatively large, and the surface can be CNC machined to a higher standard finish. Using our 4th axis indexer, each face on the square parts was machined, and the circular components were turned and milled.

Our client had stipulated that each casting displayed the distinct look CNC machining can achieve, sharp edges and precise detail, both of which were paramount to their final design.
