Scale architectural models have become invaluable in helping to see the big picture. A picture may tell a thousand words but a 3-D model says it all. Scale models have been used as a realistic proportioned exhibit of a product, building, land layout or vehicle for the past century but new uses continue to emerge.
What is a scale architectural model?

In the industrial trade, the rational choice of scales in size is usually established by the object or area being compared to. It would be too difficult to apply one scale to every scenario requested.
Scale architectural models for buildings
The most prevalent scale architectural models that we are familiar with are houses and buildings. It is helpful to builders and contractors to be able to determine obstacles that might go unnoticed on a certain building plot when they can actually see the layout of a plan in 3-D.
The future need for additional structures may run into pipes or gas lines without properly measuring and placing a building at just the right angle. Architectural scale models help balance the scene and to see what the entire plot will look like if the structure is moved two or three feet to the left of centre.
Other uses for scale architectural models
Filmmakers use architectural scale models in creating scenes that are used in movies. Measurement is important in planning an action scene or knowing the distance of a walk when counting seconds. Critical planning is much easier when laying out a town with models than having to reshoot a scene due to the amount of time or distance not prepared for.
On a larger scale, wind turbines are quickly becoming a popular energy alternative. With the height and the power of such gigantic machines, delicate planning of surrounding vegetation and structures are important in implementing a wind turbine farm. Proper spacing, property lines and even air space have to be measured in keeping with all property legalities. A scale model of a wind turbine can help determine not only physical appearance but provide accurate measurements from lines, trees and structures taking into account the wind velocity.
Scale architectural models are great in presentations and providing sales tools to help potential customers better understand the physical scene as opposed to a computer screen or blueprint. Showing the whole picture is always better than apiece.
